The previous speakers, Professor Gardner Patterson and Professor James Feinerman, have given excellent thorough analyses of the issues involved in Taiwan’s admission to GATT, the benefits to all parties, the expected difficulties and the proposed solutions. I will add only a few personal comments as an observer of Taiwan’s transformation during the past ten years and as a lawyer involved in the Trade Law.
