The Illinois’ regional reciprocity interstate banking law marks a major change in Illinois and Midwestern banking. The statute illustrates some of the requirements and problems associated with regional reciprocity banking laws and raises many practical considerations including the issues of determining reciprocity and the Commissioner’s role in working through potential problems that may arise in the application, interpretation, and administration of interstate banking law. Considering the potential impact of these statutes on banking nationwide, those in the banking industry must familiarize themselves with the various regional reciprocity interstate banking laws.
