The recent incorporation of Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIP) in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) raises many diverse issues. This paper will focus on those selected TRIP issues which are of major concern to Japan. Although this conference deals with Taiwan and the GATT, it is hoped that discussing Japanese concerns with regard to the TRIP will serve as a valuable reference point from which to explore further Taiwan-related GATT issues.
